My husband showed me this picture yesterday. I love how the use of punctuation in English can change the meaning of a thought. My husband had to show me this as the future English teacher. I told him that it was the difference between "Let eat, Grandma" (going to eat with your grandmother) or "Let's eat Grandma!" (eating your grandmother). He told me that is the best way to talk about commas with students, they because I put it that way he would never forget.

Today I have to work on adding comments to my students' grades. It takes a long time to add individual comments for students in PowerSchool, but I think it is important. I want to give specific feedback to each of them to help them grow and understand exactly how the achieved their grades in my classes. I know a lot of teachers put in the stock comments, but I think they are inadequate for giving real feedback to my students. I really think it is worth my time to show my students comments that are reflected in their grades but also suggestions for improvements.

For some students it can be hard to write them in a positive or constructive way, but I think it is important for me to approach it in that way. All students need to feel good about themselves and be inspired to improve on their abilities.

The end of the school year involves a lot of writing for me as a music teacher. Today I wrote letters to my 8th grade students based on this year and my hopes for them for next year. They should go out in the mail tomorrow and they will get them after the last day of school. I hope this will help to keep them excited and interested about band over the summer. I really would like for that written, out of school contact, to help our teacher-student connection grow. We'll have to wait and see!
